Western Middle School History

Western Middle School services students in grades 6-8 within the Bay City Public School District in Bay City, Michigan. It is located at 500 W. Midland, Auburn , MI. Western Middle School shares a complex with Western High School. Western Middle School’s mascot is a Warrior and the representing colors are brown and gold. The fight song is Curhee which is the same as Western High School.

Due to enrollment numbers, Western Middle School was constructed in the 1978-79 school year. The school operated on a split schedule during the first year of operation and then transitioned into a daily schedule the following school year.  As enrollment increased, a bond was passed by the supportive community to fund a much needed addition, which was erected in 2005-2006. This addition added classrooms as well as science labs to the Western Complex. A bond was passed in 2020 and updates to the auditorium and roofing were completed in the 2021-2022 school year. In addition, a new auxillary gym was added to the complex which is primarily used by Western Middle School students. Western Middle School shares a media center, pool, auditorium and cafeteria as well as outdoor facilities with Western High School.

Students

Western Middle School serves students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. The high school and middle school students are separated through building design and passing times are coordinated to optimize the flow of students and ensure safety.
